Brexit and the consequences - a company from Mammendorf

The Brexit casts its shadow ahead and is already affecting some medium-sized companies in Upper Bavaria. The medical technology company MIPM in Mammendorf, in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck, manufactures heart rate monitors. Until now, approval was handled through England.

Made in Bavaria - Approved in England

Blue work jacket, white logo, four letters: MIPM. This stands for the Mammendorf Institute for Physics and Medicine. The employees manufacture heart rate monitors for MRI – all "Made in Germany." However, the approval of the products for the European Union was previously handled through England. Brexit is a big problem for the company and its 60 employees, says Jennifer Rosenheimer, Managing Director of the Mammendorf company. They would no longer be able to sell throughout the EU and would lose a significant share of sales.

Mammendorf is not an isolated case

The Mammendorf company represents many other businesses. In Upper Bavaria alone, around 3,500 companies have trade relations with the British. They all now have to live with the consequences of Brexit. Frank Dollendorf, Head of Foreign Trade at the IHK Oberbayern, says that everything related to business with the UK must be reviewed. This includes clarifying labor law issues and customs questions.

Quick solution

The uncertainty with Brexit became too risky for Jennifer Rosenheimer in Mammendorf. Together with her father, the senior manager, she decided to cut business ties with England. Now, they have their products approved by TÜV Süd. This means they are no longer dependent on the political decision of whether the company can continue to produce.
